Description

Maggi’s Irish Tweeds
Maggie, as an Irish designer is very excited and proud of this addition to her yarns as it is a softer Tweed, truly carrying through the tradition of her Irish homeland heritage from Donegal, Ireland. In Maggie’s previous ready to wear Collection the Donegal yarn was a large part for over 20 years and then they were so rural their Tel number was Donegal 2!!

Donegal Yarns, the original and genuine producer of Donegal (Tweed) effect yarns are influenced by the scenic beauty of the landscape surrounding it. These burst onto the market over 100 years ago, surviving outbreaks of famine in the mid 1890’s to today a team of 21 who use these skills passed down through many generations producing a unique product from raw wool to a finished multi coloured fleck yarn. A genuine ‘Donegal’ should contain 100% wool, spun using the traditional spun method resulting in a homespun yarn of superior quality and whose flecks are permanently attached and shall not fall out even after several years of wear.

    Irish Tweed

I received several hanks of this yarn in Deep Purple from the estate of a friend. I decided to make a crocheted cardigan with it. I actually had to order two additional hanks and was worried about whether they would match or not. I was pleasantly surprised when I received them to find they matched perfectly! I was able to make a beautiful Harvest Cardigan, pattern from Yarn&Chai.com. I would recommend this yarn to anyone looking for a great wool to work with.

Church Prayer Shawl Ministry succombs to Irish Tweed!

One person gave herself the gift of an O'Dolan Wrap as a reward for completing several Prayer Shawls. Other members of the group were so taken with O'Dolan they decided to make one of their own but no other tweed worked like Maggie's. Charity Knitters get so tired of acrylics! Nothing works like your real wool tweed for a shape-holding shawl or wrap. When we have a dedication of our Shawls, we wear our O'Dolans as a symbol of our ministry. Thanks Maggie for the design and for the TWEED. Salem, UMC-Waukesha, WI.
